The grill was hot and the atmosphere was buzzing this past weekend at Mr. Smash Burgers in Oakland Park! We were thrilled to host our local partners, GotBeez, for a special "Save the Bees" awareness event right here at our restaurant located at 3200-A NE 12th Avenue.
Educational Fun: Spotting the Queen and Hive Box Basics
The team from GotBeez brought the fascinating world of apiculture to our outdoor patio. Residents from all over Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale joined us to learn why honey bees are vital to the South Florida ecosystem. The highlights of the day included:
- Backyard Beekeeping 101: Many neighbors expressed interest in keeping their own local honey bees. GotBeez provided hands-on education on how to properly use beehive boxes to support a healthy colony.
- Spotting the Queen: Using an observation setup, families got a close-up look at the colony and were taught how to identify the Queen Bee in a sea of thousands of workers.
